چکیده

Functional response and mutual interference are the most important behavioural characteristics that reveal different aspects of host–parasitoid interactions. In this study, functional response and mutual interference of the parasitoid wasp, Diaeretiella rapae (M’Intosh) attacking the cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae (Linnaeus) were investigated. Logistic regression was used to distinguish the shape of the functional response (type II or III). Nonlinear least-square regression was used to estimate the attack rate (a) and handling time (T h ). Nicholson’s model and linear regression were used to determine per capita searching efficiency and interference coefficient, respectively. Logistic regression suggested a type II response on B. brassicae nymphs. The per capita parasitism decreased significantly from 80.80 (67.33%) to 11.85 (9.88%) as parasitoid densities increased from 1 to 8 females. Consequently, the per capita searching efficiency decreased significantly from 1.173 to 0.205 as parasitoid densities increased from 1 to 8. The rate of parasitism increased as the host density increased from 2 to 50, and subsequently the parasitoid density decreased from 8 to 1. Therefore, different host–parasitoid ratios could affect the efficacy of D. rapae.

Host-related fitness trade-offs in a presumed generalist parasitoid, Diaeretiella rapae (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae)

1. Host ranges of parasitoid wasps are mediated by behavioural responses to hosts and their environment (infectivity), and development in hosts (virulence). Determinants of host range were measured in Diaeretiella rapae (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae), which has been described as a generalist that attacks more than 60 species. 2. In northern Colorado, this wasp mainly attacks two hosts: cabbage aphid...

Host quality of different aphid species for rearing Diaeretiella rapae (McIntosh) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae).

This study aimed to evaluate the quality of the aphid Myzus persicae (Sulzer), Lipaphis erysimi (Kaltenbach) and Brevicoryne brassicae (L.) as hosts for the parasitoid Diaeretiella rapae (McIntosh). Parasitization by D. rapae was higher on M. persicae than on L. erysimi and B. brassicae. The time of development of D. rapae from egg to mummy or egg to adult male or female were shorter on M. pers...

Abundance, growth rate and parasitism of Brevicoryne brassicae and Myzus persicae (Homoptera: Aphididae) on broccoli grown in Iiving mulches

In 1990 and 1991, populations of the cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae, and the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae, were monitored on broccoli interplanted with three leguminous cover crops (the living mulches) and compared with broccoli without cover crop (clean cultivation). The cover crops used were white clover ( Trifolium repens L.), strawberry clover (Trifolium fragiferum L.) and a mixt...
